  • Easter Regeneration Campaign 2025

    Easter Regeneration Campaign 2025

Now that spring is around the corner the annual Easter Regeneration Campaign for the Regen Marketplace Food Bank has begun.
Your donations can be dropped off before Sunday services from March 30th to April 13th at Emmanuel United Church.

    How to Donate:

    • You can donate either by dropping off food items (see list below) or by giving a financial donation.
    • Regen is able to purchase groceries in bulk at discounted costs, so you may want to consider giving a monetary donation in place of purchasing grocery items yourself. We are calling this the Power of Purchase. The list of food items below purchased at a lower end store would cost you about $85. Regen could use the same $85 to purchase many more items.
    • Financial donations can also be used to support the Food Recovery Program which picks up donations from grocery stores, bakeries and other food processing businesses. See Outreach presentation board in hall during Sip-N-Talk for more details.

If you wish to make a financial contribution you can do so by envelope or on-line indicating it is toward Easter Regeneration Campaign.

The foods most in need at the food bank are:

    • Pasta Sauce
    • Can Veggies & Fruits
    • Hot & Cold Cereal
    • Cooking Oil
    • Pancake Batter / Flour & Syrup
    • Canned Meat – Tuna, Salmon, Ham & Chix
    • Tea Bags
    • Peanut Butter
    • Jelly
    • Adult & Child diapers – All sizes

Thank you for helping those in need in our community. Your support is very much appreciated.

  • “Act/Fast” Book Study

    “Act/Fast” Book Study

In our New Creed, we are called “to live with respect in Creation.” And yet, the current ecological crisis is reaching a breaking point. How can we, as followers of Jesus, make a difference in our environment?

Join Rev’d Tom during Lent, staring on Tuesday, February 20th, for some discussions on how we can deepen our love for Creation and take meaningful difference, guided by the book “Act/Fast: Spiritual Practices for a Climate in Crisis“. Contact Rev’d Tom for more information or to reserve a copy of the book. The book will be $15.00, and subsidies are available for those who need it.

Regen Offers Heartfelt Thanks for Our Support

NB – This letter was received from the Regeneration Outreach Community in response to our annual givings via the Tin Bucket. Your generosity makes a difference. If you would like to support any of the ministries at Emmanuel or beyond, click here to donate online.

Dear Rev. Tom and members of Emmanuel United,

Thank you for remembering people who are mostly forgotten or ignored this season.  Your generous donation of hygiene items went into our guest’s gift bags they received Christmas morning brought many smiles to young and old.

Here’s what some guests are saying about your generosity and your investment in their survival.

    – A guest at our Christmas dinner on Dec. 16 where we served 140 people.

    – One of the 1082 families that received Christmas grocery hampers the week before the holiday weekend.

    – One of the 176 people we helped obtain birth certificates and identification this fall.

You play a major part in providing food and support, showing love, and helping build relationships that transform lives.

Your generosity as the year ends will be a beacon of hope for thousands of people throughout the winter.

With a grateful heart, we wish you and your families all the best in 2024.

  • Messy Play

    Messy Play

Is your family looking for a community of Jesus-seeking people, but you’re a little wary of what “church membership” means? Have you ever wanted to talk with your kids about God, religion, or other big questions, but didn’t know where to begin? Are you looking for an open-minded place to talk about family and faith with other young families? If so, join us on the first Saturday of each month from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM for a time of community, stories, and play, as we look at Bible stories, the teachings of Jesus, and our church traditions and see how they affect our lives today.

Messy Play is a union of Messy Church and Godly Play. Messy Church is a Fresh Expression of what church can be, and is for you if you want something a little less structured than a regular Sunday morning church. Godly Play is a method of hearing and integrating Scripture and church traditions into our lives, and is great for you if you’re interested in that, but don’t want to be told what to think about it.

The best part about Messy Play? There’s lunch for everyone at noon. Looking forward to seeing you there!

  • Food Insecurity Increasing

    Food Insecurity Increasing

A new report on food bank use in Toronto is another reason why there is such a need for the government to create a Guaranteed Livable Income. Brampton’s numbers would be proportional for our population. A few startling new facts:

    • one in 10 Torontonians are now relying on food banks, up from one in 20 a year earlier.
    • three-quarters of food bank clients spend more than half their income on housing alone, and 23 per cent spend all their income on it.
    • the average food bank user has only $6.67 a day left to spend after paying for rent and utilities.
    • more than half of new clients have someone employed in their household,
    • the network of 79 food banks across the city of Toronto broke one million visits in a year for the first time in 2021. By the end of 2023, they expect to pass three million.

Contributing factors are the high cost of living for housing, food, transportation, etc. These numbers are while the economy is doing well, and unemployment numbers are low. If the economy slows things will get even worse.

We encourage you to contact your MPP to support the proposed Guaranteed Livable Income legislation. Thank you and God Bless.
