Emmanuel United Church

Music at Emmanuel

Music is an integral part of worship at Emmanuel United Church. Our music program is built on a foundation of a music director/organist, and leaders of each music group - which include a Senior choir and a smaller folk group called New Directions. Working with our worship committee and minister, our leaders select and present music that enhances regular worship and special occasions at Emmanuel to make them inspirational, dynamic, and memorable.

Senior Choir

On Easter Sunday 1962, the Senior Choir sang for the first time under the direction of Lorne and Lenore Thurston.  Since that time, EUC Senior Choir contribution to the Ministry of Music is often a high point of Emmanuel's worship experience each Sunday.

The choir meets weekly for practice on Thursdays evenings from 7:30-9:30 pm and prepares a choral anthem to present to the glory of God each Sunday morning service.  The choir also sings at celebration of life services, funerals, weddings and other special events as requested.   A regular event each year is an annual Christmas Cantata on the second Sunday morning in December, and an Easter Cantata jointly presented with Grace United Choir every year on Palm Sunday evening.

The music ranges from traditional to contemporary, from four part harmony to simpler arrangements. Reading music is NOT a pre-requisite for joining.  If you have a joy and passion for singing a diverse repertoire of music, and sharing fellowship and musical leadership (with a smile) each week, this is the ministry for you!  Our current enrolment stands at 30 members with an average attendance of 21 for Sunday services.  New members are always welcome!

Music Director

Colin Persad - BA Mus(UWI), LTCL, ATCL, Dip Ed(UWI), our musical director and organist, has a wealth of musical experiences and gifts to share with our ministry team!

New Directions

The Emmanuel Folk Group "New Directions" is a musical group of approximately five singers and musicians that share contemporary music at Emmanuel, and elsewhere in the community. The New Directions are usually heard on the first and third Sunday of the month, as well as at other times during the year.  We meet Sunday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary. New voices and instruments are always welcome.

The Children’s Choir

At times, over the past 20 years, we have had two children's choirs, a teen choir and a Primary choir. Most recently the Choir has been for children ages 4 to 12.  They sang during worship one Sunday each month.  They have also provided the foundation for Sunday School musicals.
